What Is Pickleball?

Getting in a solid training session in the gym is always a worthwhile endeavour, but there are lots of ways you can get more exercise on a regular basis… and it can be easy to neglect the idea of team sports when you do really enjoy lifting those weights and hitting the treadmill.

There are often new and interesting pastimes that suddenly come to the fore and, it seems, the very latest of these is something called pickleball, a fun activity that apparently combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis - which should give you a vague idea of what to expect in a game.

It can be played both indoors and outdoors on a badminton-sized court, with players (either two or four), using solid wood paddles to hit a hollow plastic ball over a net. The net itself is slightly lower than that you would use during a game of tennis and the ball has little holes in it, which makes it travel a lot slower than a tennis ball would.

What’s particularly great about this is that it makes the game a lot more accessible for both children and older people, so it really is fun for the whole family and anyone of any ability by and large will be able to give it a go. And with summer fast on the approach, now’s the perfect time to start genning up on the rules!

According to Pickleball England (yes, there’s even an association!), pickleball is the fastest growing game across the pond in the US and it now has more than 4.2 million players over there! Here, you’ll find that there are around 4,000 players who enjoy a game of pickle… and you could be next on court!
